The American Association of State Colleges andUniversities (AASCU) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators arepleased to announce the 2018 Institute for Senior International Officers.Designed for seniorinternational officers (SIOs) working on AASCU member campuses, the instituteoffers participants an introduction to and examination of the key skills andknowledge a SIO must master as a leader of internationalization at a publiccomprehensive college or university. About the Conference. Applicants accepted into this focused and practical professional development institute will benefit from sessions led by a group of experienced internationalization leaders and topical experts. This institute is ideal for senior administrators with less than five years of experience that want to deepen their knowledge, expertise and leadership skills.The two-and-a-half-day program will introduce participants to key issues in the critical subject areas for which SIOs are responsible.

Keynote Speaker: Doug Chin is a director at the Honolulu law firm, Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher. He has an extensive background in public service, including serving as the Hawaii Attorney General and the Hawaii Lieutenant Governor in 2018. As Attorney General, he was the first in the nation to successfully obtain an injunction to stop the President's second and third 'Muslim ban' orders, a case that received national exposure and was eventually heard by the United Supreme Court.
For his efforts, he was recognized by the Hawaii State Bar Association as a Champion for Social Justice, and by the Council on American-Islamic Relations as a Defender of Liberty. Chin also served as the managing director for the City and County of Honolulu for 3 years and a prosecutor for 13 years. The son of Chinese immigrants, Chin graduated from Stanford in 1988 and received his law degree from the University of Hawaii.
